Will Cameroon (Africa) Be Late To The Party Again Because Of Poor Leadership?

The challenge for our nation Cameroon is that people who run the nation do not understand certain moving parts.

How can we reinvent (economically) our nation (Cameroon)?

They do not understand many things that presently define the current dispensation and I think they are not seeking help because they are too used to mediocrity and producing poor results. Or they are so afraid of how they will be negatively exposed if they adopt better ways of getting things done.

How can you run a nation in 2022 going to 2023 when you do not understand things like;

- Artificial intelligence (AI) & its economic impact

- Blockchain technologies

- The Fourth Industrial Revolution

- Digital currencies, cryptocurrencies, other digital assets

- Work From Home (Innovative remote working)

When I say do not understand things I mean you do not really hear the government intentionally driving discussions around these areas and seeing how to leverage on these to push the economic growth of the nation forward.

People leading nations across Africa must view and understand how technology is affecting our lives and reshaping our economic, social, cultural, and human environments. There has never been a time of great promise, or one of greater potential peril. Today’s decision-makers in Cameroon, however, are too often trapped in traditional and linear thinking.

In the span of a few years, cryptocurrencies have grown from digital novelties to trillion-dollar technologies with the potential to disrupt the global financial system. Bitcoin and hundreds of other cryptocurrencies are increasingly held as investments, and they are used to buy everything from software to real estate to illegal drugs. This is just an example of fast pace change, that people who run our nation do not really understand.

Yes, cryptocurrencies have their own challenges like being very volatile but it does not stop the fact of what is happening and what is coming.

It is high time citizens embark on a self reinvention journey. Especially citizens of 3rd world developing countries. If the people leading your nations are too lazy to catch up with the rest of the world you cannot afford to operate at the same pace with them.

We are in the dispensation of possibilities and opportunities but poor leadership keeps blurring these 3rd world citizens and this is why it is critical for citizens to be aware and take self responsibility.

The new value chains now developing are based on digital and telecommunications platforms, agribusiness, green energy, digital assets, 4IR etc. The question is, the people leading us in designing our economic policies, do they really understand this?

Africa today accounts for around 17% of the world’s population, but only about 3% of global GDP. Why? Because we do not create the same level of value. We are always late to the party because we are always late to understand and take advantage of new dimensions.

McKinsey report predicts $5.6 trillion in African business opportunities by 2025. Majority of these opportunities lie in sectors we are not yet harnessing to the fullest. We have to wake up if we must win as a nation and as a continent.
